Bellport is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and while much has changed over the last few centuries, quite a bit has not in Bellport!
Our broad streets are lined with mature trees and white picket fences - perfect for a stroll while you admire the beautiful and correctly restored residences. You'll also notice many of the picket fences with a specific hand wrought iron gate hardware born of Bellport and admired around the world. So unique our own Chamber of Commerce adopted it as its branding in 2004.
In winter when it gets cold enough the Great South Bay freezes over and another of Bellport's unique historical features are its ice boats or scooters scootering across the Bay! A site you will never forget!
While the birth of the ice scooter didn't happen in Bellport we made the boat a legend. So proud of its scooter, the Village of Bellport adopted the ice scooter as its emblem 100 years ago. That is not a sailboat you see on the welcome signs - it is an ice scooter!
